Carb cycling is a planned alteration of carbohydrate intake in order to prevent a fat loss plateau and maintain metabolism.
Restricting Calories and carbohydrates for long periods of time can have negative metabolic effects including: reduced metabolic rate, decreased thyroid output (hypothyroidism), increased sympathetic nervous system (increase fight or flight symptoms ex. Increase resting heart rate etc.). Also, with minimal glucose in the system, it will make the body extremely inefficient and will breakdown fat as fuel.
