May I have a moment of your time?

How would YOU finish the phrase “Time is ___”?
Time is precious.
Time is money.
Time is short.
Time is up.
Time is running out.
Time marches on.
Time is tight.

Whatever time is, one thing is for certain, time is a limited resource. After all, there are only 24 hours in each day and we spend a portion of them sleeping. The question is, with the time that remains, how do YOU spend it? Even the term “spending time” implies the value in it. We begin each day with a full wallet of hours, and by the end of the day, they have all been spent on various activities and we are left with none. We want to clone ourselves, to double the hours in each day or to make time stand still. Some of our spending choices – we’re happy with; others – we’re not. But the good news is, with each new day we get another chance to choose once again where to invest our most valuable resource … time.
But there IS one thing each of us has time for, and that’s our priorities.
Weight loss takes time. If you are truly serious about losing weight, it has to be one of the major priorities in your life … at least for now. When I was starting my weight loss journey I took my nutrition program with me wherever I went. I looked up each food item before I ate it. I planned each day out AHEAD of time. I made my salad and sandwiches. I looked up menus online and figured out exactly what was in certain dishes at my favorite restaurants. I compared cereals and crackers and yogurts and cheeses and asked questions and found the lightest, best tasting products at the grocery store. It WAS a lot of work. It took a lot of time. But it was also an investment.
Today, I’m still following my plan – more than eighteen years after getting to goal. And guess what, it doesn’t take nearly as much time any more. The investment paid off. I know where I can go to eat and not worry about gaining. My cupboards and fridge are stocked with food choices that are light and delicious.
I’d love to tell you that if you want it bad enough, you can do it. That’s not necessarily true. NO MATTER HOW MANY MEETINGS YOU ATTEND, NO MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY YOU SPEND, NO MATTER HOW MANY GREAT BLOGS AND CHATS AND WEBSITES YOU ARE PART OF … WEIGHT LOSS WILL NOT JUST HAPPEN! (Can you hear my fervor?) However, I will tell you this … if you want it badly enough AND are willing to invest the time, you most certainly can do it! WITHOUT A DOUBT. UNEQUIVOCALLY. NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU’VE TRIED. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WEIGH. NO MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE. YOU CAN DO IT!! (The fervor just went up a notch.)
I don’t care how many times you’ve “failed”. Try again. Put everything you have into your program. Plan. Prepare. Make weight loss a HUGE priority in your life. It’s an investment that will pay off in spades.
Whatever time is, one thing is certain, the time is NOW!
